Boating dogs King and Lady...

King, giving his standard greeting:-)

So every time I tell someone I live on a boat, the first questions asked is (of course), "With the dogs?".  Well, yes...with my dogs.  I can't imagine NOT having them on the boat~lol

Well, for all our friends that think we are crazy... I am pleased to present another couple of "crazies":-)  Meet boating dogs King and Lady.  They are on a sailboat that's only 2 feet longer than Mystery.  These two are absolute characters!  Both are very vocal and happy dogs and Bert and Lady have had a couple of great play dates.  I'm very glad they are part of our little marina here now...

Yep, someone else has German Shepherd Dog's on their sailboat...

There's a chill in the air...photo update...

Sara was more than a little chilly this morning~lol  She decided that it was too cold to sleep by herself and attempted to sleep with me.  Trust me, she didn't stay this way for long!  After she woke me up, she was sent to the quarter berth with her blanket:-)

We survived Thanksgiving! Photo update...

I'm so happy that Thanksgiving is over!  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the dinner Brad (another boater) and I worked on, but after working all day on Thanksgiving, then cooking again the day after...I'm thankful that it's over.

Our Thanksgiving dinner went well except for running out of ham and turkey~lol  I think everyone got to eat except for me, so I cooked another ham the day after.  We had 28 people sign up for THanksgiving dinner and served 41 (maybe more, I lost count).  The "follow-up" dinner served another 18.

A good time was had by all (some more than others~lol).

Yet another marina dog...Salty

Salty
My friend's, Paul and Claudia, just rescued an adorable Boykin Spaniel.  Salty is about 2 years old and now leads a rather charmed life:-)  I couldn't wish better owners for this handsome boy!

Salty, checking out his new surroundings

More boating dogs...

Coco hanging out at CYS Marine while I work.
I've been pet sitting for a new resident dog, Coco.  Coco's having a hard time adjusting to life aboard, so I'm taking him out several times a day while Coco's owner, Brad is at work.  I have to admit, I'm starting to like the little fella even though I am not a little dog type of person~lol  This boy is not only very friendly, but he has a "big dog" attitude.

Barkley
There's also a new transient boat dog in the marina in the slip across from us.  He's a wonderful little cocker spaniel, Barkley.  As you can tell from the photo, Barkley is a rather distinguished "elderly gentleman" who is both blind and deaf, but somehow gets around the boat and marina with no problem.  We hope that Barkley stays around for a long while yet:-)

New boat dog in the marina...

Our friends Paul and Claudia have returned from their trip up north and have brought back a new dog.  Salty is a lovely little Boykin Spaniel rescue they adopted in SC on their way back.  I'm going to try and get a few photos today to post...

German Shepherd Dog learning to get on and off a sailboat using a doggy dock....

So I think that this is what I need to get for Sara and Bert.  Once we set sail, well need to be able to get them on and off the boat in a dingy.  Not to mention that it would come in handy if they ever do fall in the water.  Besides, how can we all go swimming together once we get to a more "tropical climate"?!

Sunny, another boating dog...

So I finally met Sunny today, she's eluded me for the past several days, since she and her owner docked at the marina.  I now know why.  Not only is Sunny a very old girl, but she's got a mind of her own!  It took almost 5 minutes of calling and whistling before she bothered to ackowledge me~lol  According to her owner, she's "selectively" deaf.  She also sets their walking route and I watched her wander up and down the same dock several times before she decided where she wanted to go.  I guess at her age, she deserves to make up her mind in her own tie:-)

Sunny...finally acknowledged me.

Boat Dogs to the Rescue!

Found this great photo (and article) on Yacht Pals.  Couldn't resist sharing these adorable pooches with you:-)  And you guys thought 2 German Shepherds were "too much" - lol these guys have at least 50-75 lbs on mine!

Is there anything as cute as a dog in a boat?  Well, how about a dog pulling several other dogs in a boat?  These are no ordinary canines, either.  These powerful pooches are working in public service in Italy, specially trained to bring aid to those in the water, and to rescue people from drowning - sort of like aquatic Saint Bernards.  Actually, as you can see from the photo, some are trained, and some are still puppies in training.  When they're done with their schooling, these furry four-pawed athletes can pull a boat with as many as thirty people aboard for up to two kilometers.

These adorable "lifeguard dogs" are from Scuola Italiana Cani Salvataggio, the Italian School of Canine Lifeguards, and are shown here performing a rescue drill.  Though any dog over 30 kilos can join the force, you can see that the Newfoundland is the breed of choice (Labradors coming in a distant second).  Newfies are incredibly powerful swimmers, so powerful in fact that beside being able to tow a loaded boat, they can actually provide enough support to allow their handlers to resuscitate drowning victims while still in the water.

At the risk of sounding like a television infomercial for these H2O K9's:  That's not all!  These hirsute heroes are also trained to jump from speeding boats and even helicopters.  The dogs and handlers are volunteers, and make themselves available to multiple rescue agencies.  Many lives have already been saved, and many lifesaving agencies around the world are looking at the possibility of employing Rescue Rovers in service themselves.  Saving lives in exchange for love and kibble?  Now that's a Good Dog!

Saturday and the livings good...

So I took photos of our typical Saturday afternoon and decided to share our Saturday night photos also~lol  A wonderful dinner with Pam, our neighbor.  She fixed an Arabic style chicken curry.  She's volunteered to teach me the recipe, so I'll be passing it along soon enough:-)  Since my friend Bev keeps asking for a photo of me, I set the timer and snapped one for her.  Of course I turned to answer a question right as the camera went off.  Oh well, I'm not much inti getting my photos taken anyway so I guess this will have to do.

A glimpse at boat life on a Saturday afternoon...

So Max is away spending the night with friends who offered to take him Trick-or-Treating with their four children and my work on the boat is finally done.  Bob's still working on a project, but I'm not sure how much work he's getting done with the Florida-Georgia football game on~lol  I decided to snap a few photos inside the boat...this is what I've come up with:-)

Bert...wishing I'd leave the V-berth and let him sleep!

Sara woke up to see what was going on.
This is our bed folded up for the day  Beverly.

Sara decided getting her picture taken wasn't worth sitting up for.
She's trying to hide under the fold down table~lol

Bob project for the day is hooking up the marine batteries
and getting the kitchen faucet to work - it's run by
battery power and I have gone without a
kitchen sink as long as I can take it~lol

At least he's holding a part while watching the game~lol

Notice...the hole where the battery goes...
my kitchen sink....

THIS is my entire galley area~roflmao
Notice the tiny TV and remote mounted on the bulk-head:-)

If I take a super close-up....the tv and remote look big~

Bert, the Pirate Dog

One of my friends wanted to see the new bed pulled out and with Bert stretched out on it, it was the perfect time to see just how "wide" our new bed really is.  Please, realize that Bert is about 95 lbs, so he really isn't a "small" dog by any means~lol  But, he IS smaller than Bob, my husband.   These photos will also show exactly how spoiled Bert really is.  We hold his paw when he goes to sleep (it keeps him from attempting to lay on us~lol).

Bert is sleeping in Bob's spot...notice the "ample room" that I am left with~lol

See how sweet we are...Bob is holding Bert's paw so he can sleep.
Before you post, yes I know his nails are long...they were twice this length when we got him
and we have now hit "quick"...this is as short as we can go without pain.

Bert trying to ignore the camera in his face and sleep.

Notice his pretty new pirate collar...I think it suits him:-)

Boating Dogs...part 4 (Packo and unknown GSD)

So we had a little stray show up in the marina this morning.  This cute little guy is so sweet!  I've already called all the local vets, animal control, the humane society and posted notices at the local pet stores.  I placed an ad on CraigsList, PetFinder and the local papers.  This little dog is SO friendly and he's obviously a little lap dog since he seems to think that he is supposed to be in your lap all the time~lol  Hopefully we'll find his owners soon, until then, I'm calling him a boat dog~lol

I'm also adding this unknown German Shepherd Dog to the list of boat dogs.  I may not know this boys name, but he does live on a boat and I thought that I had to add him~lol  See everyone, I'm not the only German Shepherd Dog lover that lives on a boat!

Boating Dogs...part 3 (Whoopi and her RULES)

So we have a visiting dog named Whoopi.  I have to admit that this is probably the cutest dog Ive ever seen~lol  Whoopi is half chihuahua and half Jack Russell Terrier and she has a natural mohawk!  She has a personality that fits her unique appearance.  She is absolutely adorable.  So cute that I had a hard time deciding on just one photo!  Whoopi has been nice enough to share her "Rules" with me also (keep going past the photos for her House Rules):-)
Whoopi...you rock!
You can really see her mohawk here:-)
